Few organizations on the planet are cruelty-free.
UGG, a Decker Company
UGG uses alpaca fleece, sheepskin, leather, wool and suede in their products. The sheepskins used in UGG products come from farmers who raise sheep primarily for food. The cycle works like this: the meat industry purchases animals from a farmer, the tanneries purchase hides directly from the meat processing facilities, and UGGs buy directly from those tanneries.
Some other animal cruelty allegations against UGG:
- The meat industry routinely castrates and cuts off the tails of lambs and calves without painkillers.
- Facilities certified by the Responsible Down Standard stab geese in the neck and cut off their feet while they are still conscious.
- Sheep in the wool industry are abused, kicked, and often have violent wounds from shearing.
