Americans can be cruel, thinking nothing of it. They are conditioned from their youth. Rodeo bulls are not ferocious; they are scared, often bucking out of fear or stress, salivating, with mouth open and nostrils flared.

American consumers each ate 57.6 pounds of dead cow flesh in 2023 alone, according to Statista.

USA Wildlife

In 2022, Wildlife Services, a division of the US Department of Agriculture, intentionally kiled 2,267 groundhogs and detroyed or removed 1,087 of their burrows . It’s time for Wildlife Services to move into the 21st century and embrace humane wildlife management. Learn more about Wildlife Services reckless behavior that is destroying ecosystgems and violating animal protection laws.

Report on Miami, Florida Seaquarium

A newly released US governmqnt inspection report has confirmed that animals are still suffering terribly at the Miami Seaquarium, even though lawmakers had assured the public that things would change. The report found that a dolphin bit a patron’s hand, another dolphin sustained rib injuries, and another ingested plastic and a chunk of concrete in a deteriorating tank. Unbelievably, trainers were instructed not to contact the veterinarian; numerous veterinarian and vet tech positions were left vacant. Causing this type of suffering violates not only the federal Animal Welfare Act but also the Miami Seaquarium’s lease with the county, which requires the facility’s compliance with the law.

US Roadside “Zoos”

Roadside zoos are collections of animals in cages used to lure passing motorists to stop and see, feed or play with the animals. They became popular in the 1950s as the automobile became the preferred mode of transportation. Originally stocked with farm animals and native wildlife, they offered anything from donkey rides to snake pits. When the zoo animal breeding binge began in the 1960s, exotic animals, as they were called, became available from animal dealers and auction houses. Tigers, the largest and most recognizable of the big cats, became a prize attraction. Today there are more than 3,000 roadside zoos in 44 states and while not all have tigers, those that do usually have more than one.

Although they call themselves zoos, they are not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (aza.org) and therefore have no standards. What these facilities have in common are barren cages, inadequate food, water, shelter, and veterinary care. A full grown 500 lb tiger can be confined to a 4′ by 8′ space 24 hours a day 7 days a week for its entire life. The animals are often crowded into conflict-prone groupings. A de-clawed tiger in a cage with other tigers that have claws cannot fight for food or defend itself. Because there are no food or nutrition standards they are generally fed road kill and garbage. The lack of veterinary requirements cause many tigers to die prematurely. full article

The US State of Utah

Is a sentient animal just an inanimate object? Like ours, your answer is probably “Absolutely not!” — but Utah’s legislature is currently considering otherwise. A Utah bill (H.B. 249) that has moved swiftly through the state’s House and into its Senate aims to classify living, breathing animals as “mere things”, equating them with “artificial intelligence”, “inanimate object[s]”, “bod[ies] of water”, “atmospheric gases” [sic], and “weather”.

This bill dangerously aims to prevent the state government at any level, and including the courts, from granting legal personhood to nonhuman animals. Though legal personhood may not be necessary for animals to be given rights, Utah’s bill plainly seeks to forestall any recognition of such rights by further codifying animals’ status as objects. Even if you’re not a Utah resident, you’re going to want to read this full story.

The Iditarod

The “Iditarod” is a race held annually in the US state of Alaska. It involves humans, called ‘mushers,’ and dogs, specifically bred for the purpose of winning the race, pulling the mushers on sleds. It started innocently enough, but it has grown into a major sporting event with lots of money at stake. Several animal rights groups have denounced the race as expoitive of the dogs, even claiming the dogs are mistreated, sometimes leading to their deaths. The dogs are forced to haul heavy sleds in subzero temperatures and face injury, sickness, and exhaustion. As many as half of those who start won’t cross the finish line; a prime example of human greed, arrogance and ignorance thriving at the expense of non-humans.

Glue Traps

Countries and companies around the world have already banned the sale and use of these vile devices. It’s time for the USA to act and show that no one, regardless of their species, should ever be forced to endure such an inhumane, violent death. glue traps
